The Importance of Proactive Car Repairs

After I started working full time, I realized that I didn't have a ton of spare time to deal with broken cars. I was tired of struggling with the normal sounds and smells that my car was emitting, so I started thinking more carefully about proactive car repairs. I started abiding by the maintenance schedule and carefully reviewing my service records. It was a lot of work, but I was able to make a complete record of my car care and plan for future services. After carefully tweaking my vehicle, I was able to completely overhaul the system and make things right. Check out this blog to find out why car repairs are so important.

Volvo Safety Tips: 2 Safety Features That You Should Maintain

Volvos are great cars due to their safety, but that does not mean that a Volvo cannot fail, especially if it was not maintained properly. You should make sure you do your best to ensure that your investment lasts as long as it should. This guide will show you two safety features that you should maintain that can negatively affect your Volvo if you neglect them.

1. Transmission Safety Failure

Volvo has always been interested in safety; for example, they introduced the three-point seatbelt that Volvo decided not to patent because safety belongs to everyone. Another thing that Volvo uses is an automatic transmission shift interlock system that ensures that you cannot shift from the Park position to the Drive position without pressing on the brakes. This increases safety for you and anyone else who might be in your vehicle, but this system can fail; so making sure you stay on top of it is important.

Unfortunately the only sign that this system has failed is that your vehicle won't start, so the best thing you can do is have your mechanic check it preemptively to see if it needs to be replaced.

2. Problems With A Bad ABS Sensor

Another system that Volvo's are known for is their ABS sensor that helps the wheels unlock when your wheels lock up for any number of reasons. Locked wheels will make it hard to control your vehicle and could even put you in danger of skidding or flipping over during an accident, so making sure this sensor is working property is very important.

Age is the biggest enemy you have, so make sure you have your Volvo specialist check your ABS sensor as soon as possible, or keep your eyes open to any of the following related signs:

  • The ABS light might turn on within your dashboard
  • You start to notice that your car is not stopping as quickly as it normally does
  • Wet or icy roads are starting to give you more trouble than you are used to

Treat any of the aforementioned signs as a potentially failing ABS sensor, and talk to your Volvo specialist (like those at Lakewood Imports Volvo Specialists) so that he or she can get to the bottom of the problem. But you can clearly see the importance of staying on top of some of the safety features in your Volvo to ensure that you are safe as the car makers intended you to be.
