The Importance of Proactive Car Repairs

After I started working full time, I realized that I didn't have a ton of spare time to deal with broken cars. I was tired of struggling with the normal sounds and smells that my car was emitting, so I started thinking more carefully about proactive car repairs. I started abiding by the maintenance schedule and carefully reviewing my service records. It was a lot of work, but I was able to make a complete record of my car care and plan for future services. After carefully tweaking my vehicle, I was able to completely overhaul the system and make things right. Check out this blog to find out why car repairs are so important.

When To See A Shop About Transmission Services

The transmission is one of the most important systems in your vehicle. Very simply put, it takes the power created in the engine and moves it to the wheels, enabling the car to move. As the car moves, different gears will be used to maintain the speed or direction. The transmission is also responsible for the movement between gears. In an automatic transmission, the vehicle is responsible for the gear changes, but in a manual transmission, the operator must make the changes. When the transmission fails, the car will not move and operate properly. Here are a few signs your vehicle needs to have transmission services performed.

Sounds

When driving your vehicle, there should not be any strange noises. If you hear whining when the auto is in lower gears or always at a certain speed, it is the transmission. Luckily, in many cases of whining, the problem is low transmission fluid. If you add fluid and the problem persists, be sure to have a professional look things over. another sound that indicates transmission trouble is grinding. This sound is never good. It indicates that the gears are no longer meshing together properly. The transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced soon or you will not be able to switch gears at all.

Slipping Gears

If you notice your automatic transmission seems to hesitate or you notice the vehicle does not move immediately when you press the accelerator pedal, the gears are slipping. In a manual transmission, the driver will notice it is physically harder to shift gears. Slipping gears indicate the gears are worn and do not catch each other the way they should. Usually, the mechanic will suggest a rebuild of the gears when this happens.

Burning Smell

When a transmission is not working properly it tends to overheat. Once it overheats, it will begin to burn the transmission fluid. Without proper fluid, the transmission will become further damaged. Remember, once you can smell the burning fluid, there is already a problem.

As soon as you notice any of these symptoms, take your vehicle to a mechanic for a transmission testing diagnosis. They will go over the vehicle's transmission and all the systems connected to it. They have all the diagnostic tools necessary to complete the job. Once they know what is wrong, they can suggest the best way to handle the problem. If they suggest replacing the transmission, ask if they have any rebuilt ones that would work. These have been completely gone over and repaired so they will function as well as a new one.
